I avoid kissing as much as possible and keep everything transactional. I focus on myself and what I'm there for, which is to achieve my finish. Yup, adding a captcha check is the easiest way to alleviate DDOS attacks. If someone really wants to take down the site they can get more sophisticated but I doubt they will.
