AT&T has cheap enough phones and plans as low as $1/ day. I had an AT&T GoPhone for 3 years and it died. Recently replaced it with a new smartphone for $40, and purchased $100 prepaid card with cash. I selected the $30 a month unlimited talk and text plan with 5 gigs data. I use a fake Google account and spent several hours formatting the phone to limit privacy of apps and delete / turn off unwanted apps and bloatware.
