I recently met up with this 22 yr old and had a horrible experience. I set up a date and she asked for a pic. OK. Then before I left to see her she wanted another pic. Then a pic of my car. Then, when I arrived, a selfie of me and anything I was bringing with me to the date! Then she tells me to use condo's back door. But you need a card key to get in. So she tells me to walk to front of condo and take elevator. Which I did. Upon entering, she tells me she has a dog and that her friend is walking it while we are together. I didn't know it but her clock started when she opened the door! Yet she wanted to talk and make sure she would be comfortable! Other less common apps also seem to require linking to a real number (sending a confirmation text).
Turning off notifications, at least for me, doesn’t prevent the app from taking over my phone when a call comes in, so if you have something to hide, I would recommend logging out or even deleting the app and reinstalling it when needed.
On a humorous aside, I inherited a number once that a previous user used to contact seeking arrangement sugar babies. Unfortunately, they thought I was someone else but it was still entertaining.

Burner apps
Textfree is wonderful. I use that number exclusively for the hobby and if I want minutes ill take a shit and watch videos until I get 5-6 minutes which is all you need anyway.

I have to agree with sir Falken. TextNow seems to be quite the fit for my needs. I do need to remember to turn off notifications from time to time, so the significant other doesn't know about my trysts.
I even changed phones recently and it came across quite easily.
