It's like the one day I drove from West Seattle to Redmond and it took 20 minutes during rush hour. Indeed, if you've ever mongered abroad you quickly realize that you are often just an ATM to them. Some are actually looking for a long term situation but there is and always will be a financial component with them. Take Thailand, for example. You can easily find a girl to marry and bring home, I know several guys that have done it, but you will always have to support her family and send them money. It's like a never-ending pussy tax.
In Latin America they are usually just looking for a path to US residency / citizenship, same with Eastern European women. It's not so much a scam as it is an opportunity for some, though you absolutely will find those that will play you and even play the long con. Fine, but you damned well better sign a pre-nup or you run the risk of getting served divorce papers the day after she takes her naturalization oath. Similar story. Hooked up with this almost perfect 10 eastern European from Belarus when we both vacationing overseas.
