On CNBC this morning, Dr. Scott Gottlieb (former head of the FDA and still friendly with Trump Administration) said that what Georgia is doing now, opening up these types of places before the state has hit its peak of infections, is a model of "exactly what not to do. ".

Hopefully the MANNER in which these places open up again will show that it isn't such a bad idea as feared. News footage I have seen, while purely anecdotal, does suggest that most of these establishments are taking safety precautions, such as the wearing of face masks and comprehensive disinfecting between customers, even if they can't maintain 6 feet of social distancing. But that's hair salons and tattoo parlors -- massage parlors, which is obviously what we are all most concerned about specifically, are the wild card. Of course, we are looking at this question from the perspective of the types of massages that WE like to get, but there's no reason why both masseuse and customer can't be wearing face masks during a legitimate massage.

Anyway, looking forward to reading accounts of how this is working on the practical level, both in Georgia in general and in our little corner of the hobby specifically.
As for parlors, the feedback I got today from 6 parlors was that nobody was wearing a face mask.

"Welcome to the jungle, we got fun and games. ".

Now down to 60 k deaths or less by September. Thats a long way from the 500,000 he had on his first model, that's was used to scare us all into shutting to entire country down.

The Governor's efforts to open the economy early will only cause the death rate to increase, so I think your estimate is wildly optimistic.
Not to mention the 20% that get hospitalized, anyone I have heard of that had it bad felt like they were dying, and on top of that it often takes weeks to recover, so not thanks, I will pass on this came of roulette.

Yes, and when then the CDC can start catching up on the backlog of cadaver tests to see if Covid was a cause of death / contributing factor, we will get a better picture. Honestly, if you want to gamble with your health, by all mean feel free. Just keep at least 6 feet away from anyone when you are out, that it not too big an ask.

Strikingly, in the state of New York, the number of people who died with coronavirus last week was more than any other cause of death in fact, more than twice the average number who die in a week from all causes combined.

In the worst week of the 2017-18 flu season, New York saw 218 deaths from flu and pneumonia and 2,098 total from all causes. Last week, the state saw 4,694 reported Covid-19 deaths alone. These figures must put to rest the dying with but not of line of skepticism. The idea that this many people would have died anyway even without Covid-19 is simply not credible.
