This actually took place in Flint but it could have been anywhere. The point is that you have to be on your guard when you monger and the more facile you are at switching between your two heads the better off you'll be! One needs to be doing surveillance while the other one concentrates on the goal! I generally will bail if I smell anything, least of all something obvious like this. The smart SP's will pick a first floor room towards the back but not completely hidden or facing the property line the way Motel 6's and the like are laid out. You can be discrete and arrive and leave without anyone noticing and when you leave the room you're out in the open for only 20 seconds. Walking past the front desk which you have to do at some hotels to enter (while exiting is through a side or back door) are the worst since you always know someone is watching if not a security camera. In those cases I grab my cell phone, pretend I'm talking to someone, and just walk quickly like you know what you're doing. In over 20 years of doing this I've never been asked why I was there.
