Guys, just a quick reminder about basic research that we ALL should do before reaching out to any provider:

Perform a google search on their phone number to look for the following red flags:

1. Other provider ads with photos / descriptions that are completely off. (e. G. The original ad you saw advertises chocolate and searching for the number comes up with vanilla).

2. The phone number comes up with another person's name consistently (it's not unusual for a number to show up with a name or two, some providers use burners too, but if it's always some other random dude's name, it's not necessarily a deal-breaker, but something that should make you think a little).

Do a reverse image search:

Fake ads obviously include fake photos. You won't catch every one by doing an image search, but you'll screen out some of the obvious ones. When doing your search, use more than one tool. Of course, Google image search is most people's obvious choice. It's pretty good, and should always be consulted, but use a second tool like Tin Eye since Google image search isn't yet perfect. Tin Eye has a browser plug-in that makes it easy to right-click an image and ask for it to be searched. Tin Eye is very good at catching fake ads that pull photos from eastern-european porn sites as well as the Chive (favorite places for fakers to pull images from). And Tin Eye is really good about matching partial images (a lot of fake ads might blur / cut-off faces to avoid some of the bait-and-switch complaints thinking that 'this girl's pic is close enough' but Tin Eye will pick that up and find originals showing you the unedited pic, as well as where it came from.

Neither of these steps is a guaranteed way to avoid getting BS'ed, but its something that we all should consider at a minimum before: a) asking for advice here, or b) TOFTT.
