When you started describing the abrupt breakup, I recalled a girl I dated many years ago. She was from Taiwan, and like your Hawaiian girl she was from an extremely wealthy family (father owned a huge Taiwanese company) and was going to college in America because she wanted to, princess gets what princess wants, and I guess her parents liked the "prestige" that a degree from a US school brings in Asia.
