One option for those wanting to avoid much of the drama and risk of Detroit is Windsor. The providers are Canadian- you know: generally nice, polite, friendly, and won't rob you or rip you off. Many are university students working on the side. Rates are generally cheaper. And, its legal. So, a short trip across the Ambassador bridge can save you a lot of drama. As with all providers, of course, YMMV and not everything is as it seems.
