We should take her to a nice hotel so she does not feel cheap, so she does not feel like we are treating her as being cheap. We think. Women feel. We also need to look like we have the money we are spending. The hotel plays a part in that. We don't want her wondering if her gift will be coming from a jar of quarters or coming at all by taking her to a cheap hotel. She will notice if we leave a tip in the room for housekeeping. If we take her to dinner she will notice the tip we add to the bill. She will notice how we interact with the wait staff. There is a good chance she has waited tables at some point in the past. Each time, this has worked wonders. It's amazing how comfortable they get when they show up at a 4 to 5 * hotel. The clothes just tend to fall off and the attitude is great. In some cases the hotel may be much better than what they have at home. In other cases it may be one of the few times they have been in a nice hotel.

I've gotten around the price by using Hotwire. It has really made a difference in my adventures. I've yet to pay over $105 for a room. In most cases I'm under $100 and almost always 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 star hotel. I've done it so much that I have some special status with them now.

Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon? Should this be something we recommend to the new SDs?
