Personally I prefer Thai massages for when I need a real good massage. Combination of deep tissue and stretching. In my experience most of the legit providers are, on average, noticeably better than their Chinese counterparts. Some legit Thai places I can confirm are good are:

Siam Thai in Quincy.

Thai Villa Spa in Newton.

Deanna's Thai in Weymouth (not as good as my experiences at the ones above).

Pie has gone to other Thai places and gotten quality massages at PhoRaya (border of Mission Hill and Brookline).
