I'm coming to the area next weekend for a conference and I'm wondering if anyone can give me a lay of the land? I'm confused by the legitimacy of some things I've been seeing. I've traveled a lot and have hobbied in a lot of places, but the Charlotte scene is overwhelming in some ways and maybe underwhelming in others.

I know the Asheville scene took a hit a while back with some new legislation, and now it seems there may be some fresh eyes on some of these spots in Charlotte due to social media crap.
