Everyone has their own tolerance but I won't do any sort of verification where I can't lie my ass off and provide fake info. The AP drama (see kangels thread if you aren't aware) recently is a perfect reason why.

I also don't fuck with reputation. When you start getting into that game it limits your options and you start having to protect that rep which is how things got so fucking toxic on the other board and look what happened there. Fuck reputation. I see who I can see and if they require references I move along.

re: being safe you also have to realize that all you can do is add to the level of effort it takes to find you, you can't be truly anonymous these days. Your phone tracks you wherever you go and some of you can't / won't leave it at home when you go out to hobby. If you've chosen the wrong VPN provider they will release detailed activity logs on your account. Your browser can be sending individually identifiable information information to servers (fingerprinting) every time you log into a site. Your license plate and face may be recorded by cameras in public places. If you've got connected features on your car they have access to every place you've ever driven.

Even this site can be used to help identify people. Even though it's not enough on its own, if you talk about when / where / who you saw with enough detail that can be connected to other information to increase confidence in your activities.

The age of privacy and anonymity is over. The biggest thing protecting us is that LEO is busy and going after single individuals isn't that attractive to them but they will if you hand yourself to them on platter.

Be smart, research ways to protect yourself from easy identification, and never let the small head tell the big head to ignore warning signs. That last one is a big one, I'd rather miss an opportunity to bust a nut because I was being paranoid than end up dealing with legal issues. If it seems TGTBT or sketchy, just decide that it is and walk / run away.

As a newbie, you're going to have to kiss a few newbie-friendly frogs to develop a baseline reputation. Between that and responding to random discussion posts on the GPS board, you'll gradually build up a presence that'll make the I want to see your driver's license / Linked-in chicks weigh their options when the bills need to be paid. Eventually you'll have those I screen everyone chick's ankles on your shoulders.

Do NOT freely give up your PII. Do you honestly think any of these chicks:

A) protect your personal info.

B) are above using it against you?

C) for the same reasons would give you their PII. They wouldn't because of their own safety from weirdos etc.

Sometimes proposing an alternative screening method works (like a call) as some of these chicks can be flexible, but I would avoid the ones with ridiculous inflexible screening requirements as a rule.

When screening them, you should look at their reviews / alerts, reach out to hobbyists who've seen the chick before to get info, because most guys will not be critical in their published reviews.

Seeing as you're new, you have to be street smart. Make a fresh email address for each of your accounts which you use for the hobby, use a burner, and don't take unnecessary risks! If you're on TNA you will need to get some presence, so newbie friendly providers, a few reviews and vouches. Things get easier when you have references.

Yes, that's exactly what we have been doing. When we suspected a problem, we would send another PM, and that went through. So we have been able to communicate sometimes. When we resend the original message that never went through, again it didn't show up.
