Sorry to hear about this. As everyone says do NOT do deposits. Some will say only do it if you are willing to lose it. 50% no way! Others say do NOT do it at all because it only encourages them. Yeah red flag #2 should have been when she said "she was new to touring and hadn't set one up yet". She doesn't "set one up" except she did you. Sorry for the pun!
