In the US, you do have the concept of over 100%. For example, a GPA of over 4.0 (4.0-5.0 range). So there are situations where a grade is over A+, but no letter to represent it. That is what S is. Superior, or Shu (Japanese word for exemplary). Video games like Street Fighter 3 use it. It solves basic problem. This is what AA and AAA batteries are. AA = S. AAA = SS. As opposed B, C, or D batteries. And yes, there used to be an A sized battery. Financial markets also know that AA is better than A, with AAA being the best. There are many more examples, it is everywhere.
