This is curious to me. Having only "found" the once-thriving Tampa/Kennedy strip just 10 years ago, it seemed at the time to have been going strong for many years prior. Over that same time, other markets/cities have also transformed as well. Sarasota/Bradenton sort of "aged out" of talent and the once well populated "Tier 2" shops just kind of dried up. Meanwhile, Orlando went from what was a single "Top Hot Spot" (the old venerable Cherry Blossom on Bumby Ave ... having since been busted by a full SWAT Team for some reason) to a veritable bevy of almost a dozen similar places (some still staffed by those former Cherry Blossom girls), with many more places also trying to compete on that level.

I get it how Orlando bloomed, and even how Sarasota/Bradenton withered, but the recent vanishing of places in Tampa is more mysterious to me. I know there has been some LEO activity, but (it seems to me) none more than what they endured several years ago when Kim's Massage, and the cleaning lady, were chased out of town. Even then, with the news media and local religious zealots kicking up quite a bit of dust and attention, a lot of places (Yoshiko, Orange, etc) soldiered on and kept their doors open. Then there were the series of busts centered around a single owner and his Asian wife, which ended up getting Han River closed (I recall that guy "owned the building" but not necessarily the business... not sure if I have that right), but even after that, the old reliable places stayed put.

Then, suddenly, Yoshiko just shut the door. Then others followed. A lot of those girls have stayed out of town completely (e.g. the worship-worthy Momo ... gawd, I miss Momo!), while some turned up across the bay (Joanne, Nicole, and even Soda). As I said, I know there's been some LE attention, but it just seems like the response to totally and completely blow out of town is a bit overmeasured.

It's sad in a way, but since I, personally, am not any closer to Kennedy Blvd than I am to Orlando (or Sarasota), my options have remained plentiful, if only shifted from enduring the traffic at the "Mixing Bowl" that is the I-4 & I-275 confluence to other gauntlets of congestion, such as I-4 in Orlando or getting over the various bridges around Pinellas County.
