There are plenty of services that let you know if a number is a voip number and many of them also identify the carrier for the voip (google voice etc). Lookup IPQS for example (search "ipqs phone number lookups" - they have a free version that you can use to test. It is predominantly used as on online threat detector but the service specializes in this field. Hope that helps.

I don't think it's anything active they are doing. They previously had two contact numbers on their website with one number as a backup for t-mobile users so I suspect it's the same or similar issue with either the service provider and / or if you're using a burner number.

Separately, a reminder, there was a discussion a while back on how the burner app was blocking messages if they contained certain words associated with the hobby. One example was the word "incall". I've had a few cases where I thought the provider was ignoring me when in reality, the text never went out even though it looked like it was sent. You can check by using your burner app to text yourself with the suspect word or abbreviation. Irritating but easy work arounds: in call versus incall, bare versus BBFS.
