Just tested it out an hour ago and it's fine on my end. Sounds like you have a problem with your account. You might want to see if you can iron it out with the admins there.

I was able to unlock just a day w/o issue. Your message seems to be about a different issue.

For those that don't need continuous use of the PM function, you can REALLY stretch out the points by only unlocking it for a day or three. The most straightforward way to unlock PM with points gives you a minimum 30 day option. But if you just click on People button along the top, then View Your Profile, and look to the right of the kiss mark, there should be a button that says unlock mail for X. Click that and it'll give you 1, 3, and 7 day options. On a per day basis this is a horrible value compared to the options that are a month or more. However, depending on how often you need the PM functionality (in experience, I just need a day to verify for 99% of cases), it can allow you make those points last comically long.
