This may be outside the scope of the board's topic space. But inflation-adjusted personal consumption is at an all-time high and debt as a percentage of income (which is obviously normalized for inflation by its nature) hasn't been lower in recent memory. And, again, within the last five years the bottom quintile of income has improved more in these categories than upper quintiles, relatively.

That's a good point about removing the app, it would be interesting if there's any data on how much it has hurt them. What job availability? 2024 has been one of the roughest job markets the country has ever seen. You have engineers applying to 500 jobs and getting zero replies.

The last couple years have been difficult for software engineers--a career which had boomed incredibly for several years before and is now in a correction--but the employment rate and incomes for service jobs are at all time lows and highs, respectively. Barista, server, hostess, bartender and similar jobs are readily available. The unemployment rate in the last two years has been between 3. 4- and 4. 1%, the lowest in my lifetime. In 2012, you needed a college degree to get some service jobs. Today some businesses I patronize have reduced hours because they can't find enough part time workers to remain open.

And, of course, the jobs pay much more now. The largest percentage of income gains in the last five years have accrued to the bottom quintile.

All of this means that in 2012 to 2018 or so, it took some work to find a job you could do 20-24 hours a week. And if you got one, it paid about $10/ hr. Now people will hire you on your terms and you can probably expect to make $18/ hr, perhaps more if you're a pretty white girl with good communication skills.

This is great news for the USA Economy. It's bad news if you are hoping to see hot girls reluctantly create a Seeking profile because they need $500 to pay sorority dues.
