Excellent question honestly, I think it's all relative to the situation. In this particular instance her story seemed credible enough and the amount was small enough for me to accept the risk vs the reward. I'm obviously leaning toward fake in this situation but I think a small measure of hope is okay.

So she texted last night and now throughout the day she's been hitting me with how she can't make it back to Dayton. I kept offering suggestions on what to try but none of it was helpful to her. Then it happened she finally asks for money. Send her money she'll make it worth my while, discount this, hour that, the usual kind of offer they make. I told her we've never met that I didn't know her and I can't help. She says she only needs 15 or 20 to make it back, I say send me a real and current pic no expectation of anything beyond that and I'll send it. She obliges and I cashapp her the money.

I look at it like this, if I'm only out 15 and I never see or hear from her again, no harm no foul. But if I'm able to hit a hottie like this (provided that's actually her) then investing that small amount will be worth it in the long run. I guess we'll see which way it goes.
