It may take some tries. With the end of glasses you pull and against the curved latch it recedes, but once your glasses pulls all the way past the latch it pops back in place. So sometimes you should pull on the gate so the moment the latch recedes enough the gate opens (so the latch can't pop back in and lock). I assume with the knife technique you don't pull through, you just press, so doing it steady and far enough should work. Doing this one handed so your other hand can pull on the gate same time may be the easiest, at least for me.

I used to follow others in just fine but after changing my appointment times it's always deserted at that time. The far right gate is pretty private, I'm early and in two 10 minute periods only one person passed the area. I suppose I could set lunch appointments instead when it's busier but with this method I don't have to.

Guys I use a little pocket knife to get in there. Works on both gates on the west end of the building. It's actually faster than using a key. I tried using my glasses, problem is I couldn't see once I took them off. Best to carry something that is like a knife about four or five inches long, push the latch back and the gate will open right up.

It helps to use two hands, one to pull on the gate and the other to hook the latch, this way the latch doesn't just close the moment the glasses pull past. It is very hard to leave the door just open, but I did after.
