Webp files are being used to further compress image files for the web. I also find it annoying. My work around is to download the photo, then head over to online-convert.com. I can quickly and easily convert the photo to any other format I need.

BTW, it also converts documents, audio, video, and more. You're welcome.

Consider using a Snipping Tool like the one Microsoft has to screen capture the pictures. Save as png gif or jpg. Post here. Eliminates the above mentioned hassles.
