I couldn't agree more. Why Chance having your real identity compromised? Most of us have too much at stake. I use a TextNow number and have for over 3 years. I've only had one provider deny me service because I used an internet number. For me, I'd rather miss one than face the negative alternative.

I know a lady in albuquerque that had her phone stolen by a customer. He promptly used the numbers and texts to try blackmailing the other guys.

From the girl's perspective, it's a lot less likely that she would have a problem from a guy who uses his real phone number, because he could much easier be traced by law enforcement and prosecuted. Why should she take someone who tries to protect his identity by hiding behind a Google number? It's really not asking for much to share your real phone number. I use my real phone number and don't worry about it. It's not like she can steal your identity with it.

There are so many scammers to wade through, this is a tough ask. I have done this during quarantine, but only with providers I already had in-real-life experiences with prior and it was an accommodation, not part of their regular routine. So I don't have any one to point you towards but I would be very careful and vet as much as you can before sending / losing any more money.
