Agree with everything here. My fear with someone like Alizee, is that she sees no way out or loses hope, which may or may not lead to self harm or doing something that could end tragically. My gut tells me, that situation is not going to end well.

But the truth is that it is the cynical truth.

This "hobby" is all about interpersonal human interactions and relationships, even if they are measured in minutes. It is difficult to divorce this entirely from humanity. The risk at ether end of that spectrum is not good: either you could become too involved or, at the opposite, devoid of humanity.

I am involved in the "hobby" in other parts of the country where things are nowhere near as grim as here. There we actually have some friendships between sober providers and responsible clientele who understand the boundaries. I think almost all of us here would be stunned that it happens. The fact that we recognize each other's humanity while respecting what the "hobby" is (and isn't) is possible. Not always easy but possible. It does help that there are boards that encourage community and dialogue (hard to be bad to someone) which we don't have here.

Across the nation the hobby has devolved but unfortunately in our neck of the woods it is particularly low.
