The easiest way to prevent this from happening is never ever engage with any provider who isn't working in Washtenaw County. If you're in Washtenaw County and they pull this shit, you call the cops and have her arrested and prosecuted for extortion. If you're outside, you're screwed. A lot of us have slipped up, and getting away with it is pure luck. All these girls have a pretty high level of desperation. How far is it really from escorting to feed a habit to stealing to feed a habit to blackmailing to feed a habit? It's all activity leading to the needed fix. The OP's situation should serve as an unfortunate reminder to everyone: Phone numbers, email addresses, screen names, license plate numbers, employment information can all be used to track you. If a girl or her people has one piece of information about you, they can get everything. Phone # leads to google search leads to name leads to email / social media accounts leads to family and employment. If we're out and about, it should only be with burner and alternate accounts that are not connected to you in any way.

In this case, if the victim hasn't already, I would get in contact with an attorney specializing in this sort of cybercrime today. Those guys have resources to track people down. I knew of a guy in MA who was extorted this way, and the attorney was able to get some traction on who the extorters were and got them to back off, basically using their personal information and threatening to go to the police. It's well worth the money spent, especially for married people. It's worth noting that the victim here did not commit a crime, at least not one that can be successfully prosecuted, while the extortionists have. He should try to find whatever leverage he can.
