Having been burned in the past, here's what I do when I encounter a provider who absolutely won't see you without a deposit:

1. Gather the cash deposit for the provider you'd like to see, then place it somewhere in view nearby.

I know deposits are the current trend, but I can't get past the feeling of being potentially ripped off. I don't know if its because I have people come to my place or what, but the only time I've paid up front was when the lady asked for it and then locked herself in the bathroom for a couple of hours.
