Generally speaking, that post displays a lack of comprehension regarding "foreign languages"! And I say this lightly as neither you nor I has any insight into the poster's mindset / collective experiences regarding "being bi-lingual".

I think that we as Americans just kinda assume that everyone speaks English (which, to be fair, is essentially true). I mean, go to any Nation on Planet Earth and the odds of you, either in the capacity of being a tourist or being on a business event, finding someone there who speaks English (and likely very well at that) are infinitely higher than you (don't mean "you" specifically.) speaking the "native language" in said Nation.

There is a general disinterest in foreign languages in this country. Or so that is the case in my experience.

I do, generally speaking, find that poster's question to be a fair question, though. And props to him for knowing that the people of Brasil speak Portuguese (and others).

Anyway, just my $1. 98 opinion.
