I would start by pretending you don't know the person asking and say "it's none of your business, I don't know you". They'll have to disclose they are with the hotel if they want to keep pushing. Police can use anything against you but what they are lying if they tell you is that, anything you say will be used "for" you. They are not obligated to use exculpatory evidence to help you, only the the will examine that and by then you already balls deep.

While your advise on dealing with the police is sound I'm my opinion you should never be anything but polite to the hotel staff. It is private property, they can kick you out any time even if you are a paying customer. Become rude or a nuisance and now you just created a situation girl you and whoever they suspect you are visiting.
