I completely understand where you're coming from. I'm not a big fan of hotels and it would make me paranoid. I'm sure there are tons of mongers who wouldn't feel the same way as I, but for me the risk is too great. I'd take it a step further and say I wouldn't just be concerned about housekeeping; but also the people checking guests in and out. If you don't mind, who did you see? Personally I don't care, they don't know me and have no idea why I'm there. If they are a concern to you then go early evening or at night, housekeeping isn't usually there during those hours.
