How about 100% of the time, I don't know about anybody else but paying a deposit is always, 100% of the time, a rip off.

With all due respect to you and your previous experiences, anybody paying $20, no matter the hurdles cleared, is continuing and perpetuating the "pay a deposit upfront" rip off scheme.
