There was a time not long ago that the big saying was pain it's the fifth vital sign and you need to treat. So to. Appease the entities, Drs started prescribing narcotics like it was candy. Well the time came where people kept going to Drs for pain meds so often that the state pharmacy board got involved. Long story short, Drs stopped writing scripts for narcotics. So now the people hooked on opiates know that heroin etc can be found on the street. It had gotten so bad that we would run on multiple overdose calls every shift we worked to the point where it was getting hard to have enough Narcan available. There a new one out on the street called Frankenstein opiate that is 40 x stronger than Fentanyl. Protocols for Narcan use will have to change for sure. The individual who had the stroke will hopefully make a full recovery with no neurological deficits. Not being argumentative, but I highly doubt that the stroke was caused by Fentanyl, but stranger things have happened.

I work in the cancer treatment field and remember those days of patients pointing at the frowny face and getting a prescription. It just was a poor answer to a tough problem. And I also got a bit wrapped up in the user side due to "pain" and the availability of prescriptions. But I really didn't need them. They just feel good.

I just wish we would put all of our tax dollars spent on arresting people into rehabilitation. Oh well.

The wrong drugs and certain other factors especially a fentanyl OD can cause a stroke in anyone of any age. These drugs are killing more people every day. This current drug was developed in the "50's" as a pain killer and was quickly banned due to its extreme potency. If not prescribed and monitored closely it can kill a patient quickly. I personally believe that we should execute all convicted drug dealers just as they do in China and certain other countries. These people are murders. Just look at the pain, suffering and death we have seen in the recent past that is happening to so many providers. In years back girls worked to pay rent and survive now the work to pay for the next "fix" which requires more and more dope as their habit increases. The drug dealers keep upping the potency of the drugs to keep them addicted and needing more. Lately the dealers have made a stupid marketing mistake by making the drugs so dangerous that they are killing their customers. The drug problem in our Country is a National epidemic just like Covid. No matter what your political affiliation or beliefs you should support closing our borders and eliminating those drugs dealers that prey on our citizens. Just think back to all the girls we have know in the last several years that have died or had their lives ruined by drugs. At one time they were someone's little girl and had hopes and dreams for a happy life. I guess enough said, I feel a little better for getting that off my chest.

I'm an extreme libertarian on such issues. Economic fact is demand creates its own supply. People are going to do what they want to do. Make it legal so it doesn't fund criminal and terrorists organizations. Heck look at the past the modern mafia or organized crime as we now know it was created out of prohibition. If its legal you can have a product where at least they know what they're getting. Is it bad for you, sure but so are big macs.

Likewise on the libertarian, but decrim keeps the govt out of our business where legalization does not, the government would still be in people's business. Decriminalization makes it "legal" At a cost. Just like weed is in Ohio right now ever since Kasich repealed the Solomon Lautenberg amendment (stupidest amendment ever). Same should go for all drugs as well as prostitution. That way its not out in the open (I don't think anyone wants streetwalkers running around their neighborhood, but behind closed doors it is harmless) but people can still do what they want, and the courts can get their money too so they arent breathing down taxpayers necks and enforcing petty victimless misdemeanors to get money. Because at the end of the day, that's the only reason they enforce vice crimes, to bilk money out of people.

Before moving to NE Ohio, I lived in an affluent city in the OC, CA. , it has the lowest crime rate in the country 10 years or more, demographically 60% white, 40% Asian. At any given time there are literally 40-50 AMPs operating with very little attempt to disguise what they do and when they close its they just move down the street, there are no big sweeps or busts to embarrass people or the city. They don't have a drug problem, averaging less than a murder every year. Focus on real crime and this is the result.
