Very true. It varies and it makes it more comfortable to know and not have to guess or have it turn into an awkward conversation. I have only visited SD once, and only been to VIP. They are kind enough to say straight up how much once you are in the room, which helps. The girls are mostly gracious and kind, even if you have a less-than-great experience, best thing is to still pay a good amount and if you feel the need, share your less-than-great experience here and the market will take care of itself. My last experience of the trip was at VIP2, where there was no talk of payment at any point. I left a generous amount after a fantastic experience, I get a text from Mina before I was even back to my hotel saying I left too much. I just sent a smile back, said that they were worth it, and asked to remember to take good care of me on my next visit. This is not a dig at the OP. Just letting people know as others have, that this tip is a little low for her performance.
