Actually it is fairly rare to find a SW that is doped out in Socal. There is some homeless SW's in the downtown LA. I see this one SW in SD that essentially works for her habit. Unfortunately I no longer have access to the online reference materials I once did, and in a quick search I couldn't find any publicly available sources that gave more than a cursory explanation of the subject matter. It's not exactly like there are a lot of formal studies done that involves keeping people awake for 5+ days by giving them stimulants. You can try searching for "microsleep", it will at least give you a basic explanation of the phenomena, but keep in mind that what we're discussing is a very extreme example of it, and we're also throwing psychoactive substances into the mix as well.
