He took the money and I never heard anything again. If we need to get a room, I'll sometimes offer to pay up front as long as the girl gets it in her name with her I'd.

This is a seriously poor idea. If anything bad happens in that room (fight, OD, robbing a guy,) your name gets dragged in as a potential accomplice. I recall a report from a few years ago, where the guy trusted a girl to stay overnight in a room he booked. He knew her well and trusted her. The next day he got a call from the hotel manager saying the room had been stripped bare. She / they took everything not nailed down including an expensive TV. He was on the hook for the full amount. Not to mention having to explain it all to the manager. Just DON'T do it.

Or worse, she starts advertising out of the room that you booked and paid for, and the cops are calling you threatening to file promoting prostitution charges on you because it's your name / credit card.
