US tipping culture is rife with shameful tactics and needs to be abolished. Other developed nations don't mess with it because it's nonsense and it creates insidious work environments for employees. America takes entirely too much pride in doing whatever it can in order to rip off low income earners. I enjoy great service as much as the next person, but I don't enjoy the pressure of knowing that I'm responsible for them being able to pay for their rent or childcare. That's their employers responsibility, not mine.

Like the comment writer states, I've also been to nice restaurants abroad and they drop off the check after ordering or with the food. And I'll also have you know, I generally receive better customer service abroad and I never have to tip.

I don't need desperate wait staff in my face ruining a date because their overpaid boss is screwing them over.
