Posts: 731You're right, they will do what they want if we allow it. That's why it's imperative to know the laws and RECORD everything. Just don't be one of those people who refuse and say "I Know my rights". There are tactful methods to use while letting them know they are wrong. Yet, obey what they say then nail them in court via attorney, if needed.

Posts: 412I'm not saying the loitering charge isn't BS and that it wont be dismissed, I'm saying that you can be charged with it and your car can be impounded. Then you will have to go to court for an arraignment, then a health and awareness class, then a pretrial, and then a trial just to get the case dismissed (4 trips downtown). 4 trips downtown is a huge PITA especially for a guy that's from out of town. Your post came off a little "the cops can't do that" ish, I'm just saying they can do that. LE will play a little dirty if they think you're in their city picking up hookers.

And on a side not, if you play that "I know my rights" shit with an inner city cop you just might find yourself with some real trumped up charges. I was pulled over once for "speeding" (I wasn't speeding) and the cop asked if he could search my car, I said no. He then told me to step out of the car because he sees a gun under my seat (I didn't have a gun). They put me in cuffs and search my car from top to bottom and made one hell of a mess doing so. He was showing me that he could do anything he wanted, if he wanted to be a real dick I'm sure he could of planted something on me.

Posts: 731I don't know the rules of posting a link for an attorney's office so I won't unless I know it's acceptable, but PM me and I'll provide the link to one attorney who answered the question of that bogus charge. That is a common charge they have often fought and constantly win. Even they will tell you it's a money scam.

I stand behind what I say. That charge is purely illegal and the court relies on people simply accepting it and paying the fines because they don't know the laws. The only problem is, one would still have to pay an attorney but I'd rather do tat and shove it to the city, than let them get away with it. More fights to them will mean they straighten up. At least we hope.

I have to disagree with you, LE can do anything they want. They can charge you with many crimes for being in the hood, here is just one. Loitering in a place of illegal occupation, this is a misdemeanor crime that can get you arrested and your car impounded. I'm not saying that you will go to jail or that your car will be impounded but it can happen. More then likely you will get a notice to appear ticket and then a court date in the mail a few weeks later for an arraignment, unless LE is running a sting and then you will get your car impounded too. Search this thread for the word "loitering" and see how many monger have posted about getting this ticket over the years. I myself have been down this road a few times so I speaking from experience.

P.S. Picking someone up is not a "felony" but it is a misdemeanor and you can be arrested and your car impounded for it.

I'm not sure is she from Hammond and Otis? I've only seen her done up 1 time. Got her number in December finally and then it went dead. Haven't been able to get ahold of her since.

This is why it's imperative that you do your Recon ahead of time and have a plan in place if X, why or Z happens. The Are is full of oneway streets and you will stick out if you're unfamiliar. Reminder the LEO can ask you all sorts of questions and doesn't have to be truthful to you, you need to be careful of what you say or admit too! Depending on which parts you decide to stroll and scoop in, I highly recommend that you find an alibi for why you're where you're at and where's it that you're going or don't say shit if you have your ducks in a row and possibly receive a ticket for whatever the reason is that they stopped you.

Appreciate the intel.
Drove thru there yesterday. Didn't see anyone. Seemed like a lot of activity traffic wise. More than expected. Not sure if it's due to all all of the construction on 75.

Posts: 731Cops need reasonable articulable suspicion to pull over a vehicle. That doesn't mean they won't, but it means you, as a driver, need to know the laws and remind them of the laws. If they know you are aware of the laws, they will not bother with you. They rely on drivers not knowing the law which allows them to unlawfully pull you over and unlawfully apply an unreasonable stop. Also keep in mind, Wayne county sheriff has a task force with the lists of Detroit cops who have illegally and unethically stopped and / or confiscated vehicles. Several have been disciplined and prosecuted. It will continue. Bottom line, don't give them a reason to stop you, mainly, obey the speed limit cause one mph over is a reason, but again, they cannot do much other than issue a ticket if warranted. They need to prove reasonable suspicion that a felony was committed and even picking someone up is not a felony.

Posts: 2Coming to a street near you
I've been wanting to come down to Detroit for some time now. I live far away but did it before, there's just more to choose from down there (I live in a small city up north) I'm just worried about the civil asset forfeiture laws Detroit has. Heard a cop can confiscate your vehicle just for driving down the wrong road if you don't have a reason being there. And if a revenue generator runs my plates, they will see I live hours away. If anyone has any tips, feel free to share. Thanks.

Not Molly from the triangle. And speaking of her don't ever pay more than $60 for her.
