That's one option.

I've been using the Burner app for about 4 years, simply called "Burner". It's not free, but a few bucks a month, allows incoming and outgoing voice and text communication, and you can pick the area code and prefix.

Incoming calls show up as the burner number on your device's caller I'd. It's dirt simple to turn notifications and ring-thru on and off, so no surprises when you don't want them. Need to ditch it? One tap "burns" the number and you can get a new one. I've tested this extensively, calling my work landline and cell phones, and it's absolutely solid.

I have no commercial connection to the app at all, just a satisfied user.

Learn the town associated with your burner number's prefix. That's where you're "from" if a girl asks. This can add legitimacy.

Make sure your burner number goes through caller ID correctly. To test this, call your work phone or another cell. If it's blocked or unavailable, many good prospects may not answer or respond.
