We should probably throw some virgins in a volcano to stop the spread. Probably as effective as the hysterical "shut down everything" and "wear masks" superstitious crowd.

Florida is largely open. California largely closed. Difference in spread rate is statistically not different.
It doesn't matter who's locked down on paper and who's not -- the reality is that poll and after poll and election results show that for a variety of political and ideological reasons, from 30 to 40 percent of the country simply have not been following anti-COVID procedures; often with the support of local and state governments (in California, your "locked down" state, police chiefs in numerous cities have publicly pledged not to enforce mask and / or lock down statutes).

And that's the problem. If COVID measures were ineffective, then most of the countries in the so-called first world would have the same COVID stats as us. They don't -- despite having the most expensive health care system in the world, and low population density than many countries, the USA Has 4% of the world's population and 20% of the COVID deaths.

I wasn't stating not to wear masks. I was saying wearing masks already does so little that you might as well not wear anything if you aren't going to do the other more successful actions such as social distancing. Like these new years parties that are going to be occurring. Yes wear a mask but be in a packed bar, club, strip club, etc with a bunch of strangers you don't know where they've been just doesn't make sense.

Go to the link I provided. It provides deaths by week for the United States as an aggregate (don't try to sort by date and sum the totals because there will be some duplication). January (which might include some deaths from Dec 2019) had about 240,000 death. The last week of December of this year will probably add another 65,000.

Glad to see you practice what you preach. Have a happy new year and stay away from the covid!

Its a pain in the ass to wear one, but a small price to pay to minimize the spread of the virus until enough people are vaccinated to to get this thing under control.

    Inconvenient truth

100% - and this is just a sampling of documented regrets of people who chose not to mask and / or distance that subsequently contracted the virus and. In some cases. Paid the ultimate price.

In contrast, the number of people that "religiously wore masks and contracted COVID" are embarrassingly absent from the public record.

    Religiously wearing a mask?

Religiously wearing a mask is virtually impossible. Who wears a mask 24/7? You could come home to an asymptomatic wife or family after wearing a mask religiously ALL DAY, take off your mask, and catch it. While the mouth and nose are still the biggest areas of concern, it's possible to catch it through the eyes as well. When working with COVID patients, the majority of the staff wear a face shield. I probably see less that 1% of people wearing face shields when I'm out in public.

    And the debate continues. LOL.
