Some prefer hard evidence / facts from credible sources. Others rely on what they "feel" is true and will search out sources, credibility be damned, to confirm these feelings.

In the first case, new data and contrary evidence causes that person to question their suppositions and what they believe to be true.

In the second, new data and contrary evidence causes said person to question the data / evidence because they already "know" the truth.

This really explains our political divide on things like Covid, the election, conspiracy theories, etc. You can't use reason and logic to convince someone who didn't use reason / logic to arrive at their conclusions to begin with. Trying is a lesson in futility so I usually mock, shame, maybe leave a snarky reply, and move on.
