99.999% of crime is NOT limited to a couple of blocks LOL! As someone born and raised in Chicago I would say the majority of the South and West Sides are very dangerous. Downtown and North side are still relatively safe but even that now is changing. When I read the streetwalker reports I would never venture near the often mentioned West side 5th Ave stroll at night or daytime for that matter. I will say that the O'hare / ElkGrove area and most suburbs are still very safe.

Chicago is a very large city and very spread out. 99.999% of the violence is deduced to a couple of blocks, which are far from downtown and nice surrounding neighborhoods. While the violence is up in recent years, the downtown area and nearly all neighborhoods are safe. Such a shame that a terrible light is shown in the media on such a gorgeous city. Visit and see for yourself, then tell your friends and family. Very ridiculous how this city is portrayed. Very disheartening.

Exactly right. What the doom and gloom news stories don't really ever make clear is that Chicago is a geographically huge spread out city. The riots that spread up to the loop and Mag Mile area were a once in a ten year extreme event. And there's no 'no policing' experiments going on. Those parts of the city are heavily patrolled. Most providers will be staying in a big downtown hotel. As long as the girl checks out as legit, you'll be fine. If you're going out late at night, just have your plan how you're getting to and from a spot. The only watchout would be incalls on the far west or south sides of the city. The bad neighborhoods are the ones you want to stay away from. Where you'd be staying, you're fine.

Of course, in a big city, crime can happen at any moment. But unless you live / spend time in the inner city of Chicago, you should be fine. If you're really concerned, just don't spend time out late at night.

If there are any riots, just don't go outside.

According to Neighborhood Scout, Chicago isn't even in the Top 30 for most murderous cities in the US. Oddly enough, Kansas City is.

Let me put it in perspective for you. Being from the West coast you have probably experience an earthquake or 2. Or 3 or 300. Most are minor and you're aware of the big one could happen but don't think too much of it. Same here with crime in the city. We are all aware of it and the big one (murder) could happen to us but most likely a small one (car broken into etc.) is all we will ever experience.

Its all a matter of one's perspective.

I will add to this. West Palm Beach Fl which is a sleepy suburban-like town near Miami has a higher murder rate than Chicago. Chicago gets crap because it is the biggest city with a high murder rate so the numbers look high and because Obama came from here there is a lot of effort to crap on the city for the past 12 years.
