Trump IS a xenophobe.

If having border protection and employing scrutiny when allowing people into this country is xenophobic then count me in. People like you and Sgt. George throw your little phrase-bites out there without any thought about what you are saying other than you hate Trump. Ok, then hate Trump. But if you hate Trump that much then you damn well better enjoy what the Marxist / Anarchist Democrats are going to do to you and the rest of us if your collective hatred brings him down. Liberals and conservatives used to balance each other out and the result was a somewhat balanced middle ground, the real truth being always somewhere in the middle. Now that the middle ground has been eliminated we are left with two unbalanced ideologies that left unto themselves would eventually destroy everything including themselves. Although I have no love or trust of Republicans the conservative approach seems to me to give us the best chance of at least some kind of balance and common sense, concepts that are completely lacking with the leftist / liberal approach which is to destroy everything without having anything reasonable to replace it with.

Over the years so much has changed: Once upon a time the republicans were for balanced budgets and financial restraint. Going further back, the Republicans were the party of freedom and equal rights for blacks. Now, Republicans don't seem to have a problem with deficit spending, bloated budgets and tax breaks for the well to do. On the other hand, the Dems used to be the party where most white racists hung out, now its the other way around. The Dems of today aren't leftists in any way. Ever since Clinton, the dems have been moving to the right, essentially being forced to do that by Newt Gingrich's Contract on America. The idea that liberals are leftist is spin from the propaganda machine. Take note, those with the most money tend to control the messaging we are all exposed to. If I hear first hand Trump say something ridiculous to the press, which he does almost everyday and, an outlet like CNN reports it or comments on it, that is called reporting and we should be thankful that some media folks take their jobs seriously. The best chance for common ground is to begin to agree on what the facts are and begin open conversations about our values. We aren't all that different but each group has some measure of alternative facts because the media is about money, not reality.

News flash, Newsweek has always been considered more right leaning than anything else. You might say it is to the left of far right but that still leaves it in the conservative, mainstream republican camp. Second did you read more than the headline because you have your FACTS wrong (big surprise there)? The article does NOT suggest that republicans are better looking. It suggests that better looking people tend to vote Republican because they have an easier life than, well, ugly people. It amazes me how a simple headline can be so wrongly interpreted.

But instead of acting on that knowledge, much less passing it on to the American people, he very deliberately said the exact opposite he LIED and refused to take any action.

The way Trump chose to handle the US pandemic wasn't really the actions of a bumbling, self-besotted narcissist too stupid to focus on or absorb the facts but the cold-blooded response of a sane monster

While I am disgusted by their duplicity regarding covid and the leadership seriously makes me want to puke, fucking Pelosi, and the far left has become as big a lunatics as q'anon I honestly believe in my heart that the right would allow capitalism to be completely unfettered which would hasten the US's fall into a total oligarchy. I think the left, to some degree (less and less every day honestly) could still stand as a deterrence to the complete corporatism of the US. It's difficult for me because I'm a capitalist at heart.

It may also be the last idealism of my youth and habit as well.

Believe me when I tell you I think about it a lot given the choice I'd rather see social democracy break out in the US. I've spent a lot of time in Europe and I know there is a lot of propaganda on the right about Europe but if you spend a few years there you would see that they have it going on.
