Chicago's crime and homicide rate per capita is higher than the national average, but still lower compared to plenty of other cities. If you're so worried about staying in one of the nicest areas of a large metro city, than stick to KC.

I agree 100%. I never give that info. Here's how you go about it. Depending on where you are. Generally and hotel or parking lot of any type its easy to do. First and foremost always get there earlier than you say you do. For example if you going to a residence or room and they ask how long or what time give yourself 15 to 20 mins. So get there early and do a drive around. Check the lot, check the alley backside. Make sure there's no LEO, pimps etc waiting for you to pull up. Also take this time to peep out a vehicle in the lot or parking area that you can describe. If you have a blue car find a white one or black one that is in the lot. When you tell them you have arrived park where you can see the car you describing and watch for activity near the vehicle. Maybe a passing vehicle slowly pass the car, maybe someone comes out of nowhere and walks pass it looking. If none of that happens then you are clear. Seems like a lot but its routine and keeps you safe. Just my advice.
