Wow that's crazy. I didn't realize hotel management had to cooperate with cops. I understand that dingy notels in shady areas could be havens for SW and drug use, so that does make sense.

But given how every other motel here has providers living there from time to time (extended period, visiting) and random johns walking in (I feel like most regulars would know how NOT to stick out like a sore thumb), my impression was that hotel management couldn't care less.

I would say there's no "safe" area in general. Depends on the election cycle and how popular an area is. A friend has been a GM at various hotels across metro-Detroit. He told me he had to work with on police department pretty regularly to catch both providers and their clients. Basically cops came in and say if you don't help us we'll harass you and your patrons. Said cops look for folks confused and on their cell phones when they walk in to the hotel as potential johns in the sting. Most of the time he indicated that they just went after the provider. Get her trespassed by management and then arrest her I guess. I'd say a lot of staff notice but just don't care when someone is being completely obvious. I traveled a lot so I always felt more at home in a hotel than my actual house. Also, if it's a new hotel you can usually Google the layout so you know exactly where to go and aren't wandering around like an idiot.
