I usually do meet and greet at a local coffee shop so I can just acquainted with them. Make sure they're not psychotic. In my personal experience I can usually tell if they're psychos by how they dress. Works real well and I think it's good to make sure they aren't weird. Met a couple that I didn't do that with and I was very disappointed in myself.

I agree that it's more accelerated on SA and a lot of this advice is generalization and it depends on what you are looking for. I don't consider the meet and greet a true first date since I don't provide an allowance for a m&g either. I just want a chance to see what she looks like, see what her personality is like and to verify that she will actually show up. All of the SB's I've had good relationships with have welcomed a chance to just do a m&g first and they all put out on the first date where they got an allowance. The ones that want to hook up right seem to work more like providers and they definitely are just about the money and tend to be more flakey. I'm sure everyone has their own strategies on vetting potential SBs. I know what I want in an SB and this seems to work best for me.
