I'm a good guy, like to see the best in people but maybe I need to revisit my philosophy. After that grocery trip we ended up in Walgreens as she wanted some makeup / hair color. Seemed like ended up buying 1/2 the store. It was still under that budget so I swallowed it. At this moment we're at least at $250, now we've spent at least 2. 5 hours just outside not doing anything but what Barbie wants. I'm patient still, thinking that it'll be worth it. We order in but the entire time she's in the bathroom calling different people about some drama, requested no pharma stuff but apparently Xanax is her jam. She had 4 off those bars and now I'm worried because she's pretty much out of it 3/4th it the time. Now, we've spent at least 3. 5 hrs without doing anything for myself. At the 4. 5 hour mark, I politely try to see if we could get something going, kind of got shut down, she starts becoming super emotional (meanwhile yelling at my neighbors in the resort after midnight), starts crying, wants to go home, then says doesn't want to have intercourse but wants me to give her $80 when I drop her off for clothes in the morning. 5-5. 5 hours into this I had kind of reached my limit. So I wanted to do some damage control, I politely requested if she wanted to go home I can drop her by I would like to take all the stuff I bought her back (makeup and hair products), groceries not included. This is when all got really interesting. She got peeved, said OK let's have sex right now, I told her I'll sorry I'm just into it anymore. She threatened to call the cops on me telling me that I've got more to lose than her and she'll wake up all the neighbors as well. She frantically started taking everything out of the boxes / packaging so I wouldn't be able to return it. I grabbed a few bags and requested she grab her stuff so I can drop her off. As soon as we got in the car, she called her roommate, told her to call the cops -then looked at me and said I'll be out in the morning, you've got everything to lose. She also proceeded to call a Captain on the boards for her apparently, she said he was a mod and will have me banned. She also proceeded to tell me that nobody is going to believe me as I'm just visiting and people trust her more. At this point I'm just trying to get this nightmare over with. She threatens to flag down a cop car around the corner from her place unless I gave her all the stuff. I'm over it, I decide to cut my losses and go back and lick my wounds.

I'm sure she's a nice person maybe in a bad situation. But what Barbie did I'll never forget, considering that I'll have to grow up and not keep on being a nice guy all the time. This experience was definitely an eye opener.

Sorry to hear this. You're not the only one to have received this level of drama.

Of course she would be far worse off if the cops arrived. She's never going to call them and the fake making of phone calls is SOP.

But the problem is that someone else may call the cops thinking from all the noise generated that she's the victim of an assault and they will most likely arrest both you and her rather than try and figure out what's really going on.

And in that respect she does have the advantage that it would (I assume) be your first arrest which will stay on your record and pop up in background checks for the rest of your career, while it would be just a rounding error on hers.

Best decision is what you did ie stay calm and quietly exit asap. Figure that the dollar amount you lost was small in comparison to the potential damage to your life if you were to escalate the situation (and / or the cost of an attorney to straighten things out), and just add it the list of life's learning experiences.

Most of these ladies make a living from being manipulative and have little appreciation for acts of friendship or generosity. With candy affecting their judgement you can't rely upon them figuring out the sensible or honorable solution and things can turn ugly at any time.

If you morally have no issue with letting her and the child (if she even decides to keep the child) go their separate way, you would have no obligation. Even if she keeps telling you that it is your child you still are legally not obliged. However, if she questions the paternity to a court and you are forced by that court to provide a DNA / paternity test to the court and then it is proven the child is yours, you most likely will legally have obligation until the child turns 18 or possibly even older. The court would have to have strong belief that you may be the parent to force you to prove paternity and that fight costs the mother (and you) lots of money to prove and to fight. If you are later found to be the father, you may have to pay her legal fees as well.

The scary part is that even if you ignore it all and she doesn't pursue you at first, she can later on try to prove paternity and you could then be on the hook for support AND all support backpay to day one if the court levies that against you.

If she gives the child up for adoption, which many of them do if they go through the pregnancy, you would be free and clear as all rights then go to the adoptive parents and they assume all responsibilities.

If the child is taken away from the mother because she is deemed unfit, I would think that you would not have an obligation because she becomes a ward of the state even when foster parents are found. Although that part I am not 100% sure. BUT, if the child becomes legally adopted after forced removal, all obligations go away just as if she voluntarily gave the child away.

No, I am not a newbie, I have lost my sign ins for past user names and have to create new. Anyway. I have known the saint for about 6 years.
