Yes, to clarify things. Law Enforcement. This was a long (months) on-going investigation by the FBI and Local LE focused on collecting evidence against the proprietor (pimp) of the website.

Dudes reported on this site that LE called them at home in regard to dating at that motel. Those dudes who were contacted, posted seeking advice on what to do or to offer warning to others.

I am not aware of what is "the usual modus operandi" of any LE, just reporting what happened in this case, fwiw. Perhaps LE is "evolving" or adapting in their styles and techniques? For me, understanding what has been done in the past allows me to evaluate steps that might be taken to reduce risk.

I have heard about dudes getting scam calls by thugs etc. I have had idle threats from girls before trying to extort me. But if one is following the rules, then they are using an app number layered on a burner phone. Seems like the way to get a call from LE at home or on a regular number is:

1) IF LE gets your name / info from vehicle registration or.

2) If one makes a date from a phone registered in your real name.

I would think an App number allows one to block the thugs attempting a shakedown and that usually ends it. That has worked for me. Just blocking a number. However, IF the scammers get persistent by using different numbers, then I dump the App number & get a new App number. The extreme case is when nefarious types end up with the burner number then it is time to send the phone swimming and start over. Thankfully only had to do that once and I was probably paranoid and over-reacting! Seems like the only "thugs" with enough resources and legality to find you at home would be the Gubmint?

Whenever I've had to bail, at motels, its always been because of the potential of a close encounter with thugs with badges very nearby. Or, in one case (not in New England) because I was challenged at the front desk. That was at an Extended Stay type of place in NJ where it was necessary to walk by the front desk in a very small office in order to get to the rooms. So, I will no longer patronize girls that insist on staying in such places.

But there have also been times when I've had to bail before entering private incalls, because of the perceived presence of thugs WITHOUT badges. In order to bust the the dude, LE conducted surveillance. One could read about the days / dates that some of the surveillance was conducted. So I guess if mongers had gone to the motel early, done a bit of recon ahead of time, they might have seen the surveillance? After all, LE needs to be "in line of sight" of the action, no? Isn't recon one of "the rules?

Next, because LE was limited in resources, they set up a camera on a nearby pole aimed at the room where the dates were happening. Yeah, seems like we slip further & further into 1984 or The Matrix as time goes by. From that pole cam LE was able to record dudes coming & going into the room. And oh, wouldn't you know it most all of the dudes parked right in front of the room, so their ass-end was pointing directly at the cameras and their license plate in full view! (Point is in nearby states (2) there are no front plates!) So as things "went down" with LE, several mongers got telephone calls at their home numbers, obtained from a DMV search. (Along this line: what is anyone doing "boxing them self in" by pulling into a parking space? I was always taught to park headed out or in a way that can't be boxed in! I dated a girl at a motel once and had the option of pulling into a space in front of her room, took instead the option to park in a space that was parallel to the flow of traffic. Turned out to be a good decision as half way through the date the pimp showed up and I needed to get out of there fast.
