Whenever I've had to bail, at motels, its always been because of the potential of a close encounter with thugs with badges very nearby. Or, in one case (not in New England) because I was challenged at the front desk. Long no vindictiveness here. Hotels generally speaking have no idea whether you are a guest or a visitor. I'm not talking places like motel 6 or the small ones on rte1.
