I'm not sure how providers check it but from googling, there's a paid service called twilio that does it. For GV, if it goes to voicemail, there will be an automated message that gives away its a gv #. You can customize the message but then you wouldn't want to leave your voice on the vm. Mia Bella is an example of a provider that states on her ad she doesn't accept voip #s.

On eros with a local girl here that has been mentioned as a good provider near o'hare. Once I put the gv number into her email which was her initial way she wanted contact she went silent. What I think I am going to do is just invest in another sim and add it to my existing phone which is unlocked and takes two separate sims. It's a cheapie android anyway. You can find almost anything with a phone number nowadays, relatives, address, etc. Use a burner phone. If you get a cheap burner from say boost mobile, you don't even have to give a valid name. I realized this when my service was attached with my name spelled wrong. If you're in this hobby and willing to drop 200/ hr on someone, then you should be able to spend 40 dollars a month on a second phone. Using a burner saved me a lot of headache, after not one, but two extortion attempts.

Or go to the App Store. Textfree keeps calls and texts off of the phone bill. Numbers are disposable.
