Hello members, today a friend had someone try to extort them for $1000 stating they would turn them in unless they give them money. Anyone run into this?

How was your friend being extorted? Does he know this person personally like they've met before or does he only know them through internet and hasn't met the person yet? Was it a video chat thing where your friend did some things and was then threatened that if he didn't send money his video would be seen? If that's what it is don't sweat it.

I was actually stunned they caught it. I didn't use a celebrity or anything, LOL. That is scary and obviously why you want to use a different name and phone #, etc. However, if you have pics, they could probably google them and figure out your identity. I am not strict enough with that myself. But even if you text a pic of yourself to someone, then the same applies. And I don't know that most women would meet, sight unseen. Some guys on here said they use fake pics, and if you can get away with that, seems like the way to go.

What info do they have? And who are they going to "turn him in" to? Personally, if It were me, I would not do anything. If he pays the money, what's to say they don't come back in a month for more money? I would just call there bluff, take my chances.

Someone got pissed and reported you. Just wait a day. They will unlock it after their "investigation. " Been there done that.
