I'll echo this and refine it further: You can almost always find whatever you want to know with 15-30 minutes of research, sometimes 45-60 max, if you're really trying to find a variety of info (say, escort, SW and MP info in a given area). Well worth it, always. If I don't find what I want, say whether a girl will DFK or not, then I'll send a kindly PM to a few posters.

Then again, you can also impress by TOFTT in a new area you're visiting. Good way to win comrades, even if you strike out occasionally. This is how you win in mongering (and win the USASG).
